1. Brush the bottom (non breast) side with butter and season with salt and pepper. Flip the turkey over into a roasting pan lined with a rack.
2. Season the cavity well with salt and pepper. Add the fresh herbs, lemon and onion. Using toothpicks or skewers, secure the skin over the cavity. Tie the legs together with twine. Brush the top with remaining butter and season with salt and pepper.
3.Roast uncovered for 45 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 350 degrees F and continue roasting until the internal temperature taken in the thickest part of the thigh reaches 165 degrees F (12-14 per pound)
