  1. Trim any excess fat off pork shoulder, being sure to leave approximately 1/4-inch of fat.
  2. Combine brown sugar, paprika, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder and cayenne. Rub all over pork.
  3. Place pork in a slow cooker.
  4. Add apple cider vinegar, stock, and liquid smoke.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.
  6. Pour off liquid into a small saucepan. Simmer until reduced to about 1 cup.
  7. Using two forks, pull apart pork into strands. Discard bones. This will be easiest when the pork is hot.
  8. Pour reduced liquid back into the pork. Season to taste with any remaining rub and additional salt and pepper if desired.
